My Man

See these amazing little feathered friend ear bobs? Well, my sweet romantic of a husband made these for me and surprised me with them out of the blue this week. I was so giddy when he presented them to me right before we headed to bed. Come on!!! What hub makes EARRINGS for his lover girl? *smile* I love them. I love them even more because he knows what I like and he made them. It's amazing being truly known by another soul. I think my most favorite thing in all the world is being known by my man. From the smallest of things to the biggest. He knows me and I love that. Yeah, these are just earrings, but they were like a sweet little kiss blown my way.

I think you grow into a whole new deepness in love and life when you have a little babe. We have laughed more, cried more (well, at least I have). We've been frustrated more, loved more and known a trueness about each other more than ever before since the stork flew to our house 2 months ago. With marriage, your heart is an open book. Add a baby and both your hearts are splattered all over the place in one big mess of love because you realize what your love can do

"Love and life aren't perfect," some quote goes. Well, I like this unperfectness the best. Yes, please.

When the day is done and all the little frustrations of the day are starting to get fuzzy...the pee all over that shirt I love, the growth spurt that requires endless boob sessions and the day where it seems like we've barely spoken, the evening sets in while the baby smiles at us and my man sits on the couch with me, kisses me gently and whispers, "I love you."

Thank you baby for the little kiss. It was so much bigger to me than you know.

I'm 8 Weeks People

posted on: Monday, October 25, 2010

It's a rainy day today and my little boy is 8 weeks old. Colored leaves are everywhere like smushed crayons on the wet pavement. I love it. We opened the front door so we could here the sound of the rain. Mmmm...

I made Káel some little man scarves and leg warmers last night. I'm lovin' it. The sound of my sewing machine going was music to my ears.

He had some fun floor play time with daddy this morning.

Check 'em out.

Pumpkin Time!

posted on: Saturday, October 23, 2010

We recently had a pumpkin carving contest with a group of our dear friends and it was a blast!
Here are a few pics of the day. Sam tended to little man so I could fully concentrate on my artistic endeavor. My dude is such a sweetheart. He knows I look forward to any creative outlet that I can manage to squeeze in.

The pumpkins were bought, tables were set and the tools sharpened. (Not really, the tools sharpened part just thought it sounded cool.) Ha! We were only aloud 3 tools total to do all our work. Including the scraping out the pulp part. I had looked on Martha Stewart's website for intricate carving ideas and made a list earlier in the week for the tools they suggested. Well, Sam went to go get the things on my list and low and behold most of the people at the hardware store didn't have a clue what half of them were. FAIL. I was so excited about doing this detailed job and now, I had to search the house for a razor blade, steak knives and my favorite choice, a potato peeler. (That was my best tool.) We didn't think to get a carving set. Oh well, I enjoy a good challenge. I decided to scrape the insides out with my hands. It was rather...gooey and quite fabulous.

Sit at a table? Are you kidding? Much better pumpkin control in the dirt. (Is a pumpkin a veggie? I guess it is isn't it? Hmm, you kind of think about it just in it's own class of pumpkins. Well, it's kind of a gourd. Are gourds considered veggies? Off to google land.)

Sam got some shots of me doing surgery on my victim to art. And yes, my rear end did get a little smeared, but it was worth it.

True Religion jeans
Free People Thermal top (if you're preggerz, these will last you almost to the end.) My folded down Minnetonka fringies organic jersey scarf (non-silky jersey cotton is the best for head wraps. scarf post coming soon.)

We saved the seeds and baked them, oh so yum.

It felt so good to be making/transforming and changing something other than a diaper. Yeah, so my hands got grotesquely slimy with my choice of scraping the hollow of the pumpkin by hand. Creative outlets come in many forms. Can I get a witness?

I did two sparrow birdies.

Cigar smoking pumpkin...my fav. Yay Josiah and Nichole!

Big feast afterwards. It felt like Thanksgiving! Our friends are incredible! <3

...I'll take another please.

After our little party we continued the excitement at the local corn maze. It was my first and it was so much fun! I wrapped Káel up in his Moby. I was one hot, secret agent, corn maze momma. (Notice the bottle in my back pocket...I was prepared baby.) He slept like a champ. You could hear the happy squeals and screams of all our friends as some had run ahead waiting in the tall corn rows, to pop out and surprise the ones that where going slow. I managed to surprise a couple of people, even with a baby. ;)
Little dude didn't wake up once, even with all the yelling and hollering. I'm a rather vocal person, he probably got used to it in the womb. haha.

Boho Ninja Mom

posted on: Friday, October 22, 2010

Yesterday, I went out with my sister Beka to the mall. I needed to get out of my familiar and immerse myself in a little bit of social culture. So, off to the higher end mall we went. I downsized my baby bag, slung my Moby Wrap around myself and tucked the little bug inside of it. He slept for 3 hours solid in that thing! It was almost like I was baby free for the whole outing.

Lunch at the Nordstrom Café...Chinese chicken salad. Oh, glory.

We went to go visit and show Káel off to some of our friends who work at Anthropologie (Beks and I used to work there). While browsing, I saw this bit of amazingness. A chandelier made from book covers that have been cut into strips. Ah. I am so going to make one of these. It would be so easy and simply fabulous.

It was crazy going back to this mall with m'babe. I found out I was prego while I worked there at Anthro last year. I remember bursting into work one morning, during Christmas time and exclaiming to my co-workers and managers the exciting news! (The thing everyone tells you NOT to do. I couldn't hold it in , are you kidding me!?) My first days of learning that I was a mommy were here at Anthro. And my first days of morning sickness, and ravage, beastly hunger. I remember, I had a continual stock of crackers up on a shelve in the stock room.

Having a baby seemed so far away at the time. He was mine, in my tummy and it was hard to really imagine anything different. But now, here I was, almost a year later, with my baby. The atmosphere was the same, the smell was that same amazing "Baltic Amber" scented candle that is so the trademark of Anthro - same familiar faces, plus one extra little one. The one that had been chillin' in the mommy spa while I worked here. I looked down at him and thought,
"Here is life Káel, say hello."

A funny story for you.
SETTING: Last year, before Christmas. So, I've known I'm prego for 2 weeks. I call my mom on my way to work (We were waiting to tell our folks on Christmas day, so she had no idea yet). I hang up as I walk into work. I see one of my girlfriends who I work with and start to tell her our plans to surprise my parents on Christmas with the news that I am pregnant. As I clock in, I go into all the details of what we are planning.

(I had told Sam a month before, "Whenever we do get pregnant again, in the next year or two, (HA!) we should plan on it happening around Christmas, so we can give that news as the present to everyone." I didn't mean THIS Christmas though. Hehe.)

Little did I know, as I'm rambling on, I had accidentally re-dialed my mom! She heard the WHOLE thing! (I just found this out a couple of months ago by the way. ha!) I went about my day, happy with what I thought was a SECRET. My mom, spent her day screaming throughout the house with my dad that they were going to be Grandparents and trying to act chill for the next few weeks every time we talked.

Along comes Christmas and my sweet parents tried to act really surprised. I thought, they were just in a joyous shock. I go back and watch the video, and I laugh so hard. They actually tried to act like they didn't know what that plastic stick with two lines and a plus sign meant as they pulled it out of a little gift box. Let alone the baby sock. Soooo funny! They didn't want to burst my bubble that they had known for weeks so they waited to tell me until they knew it wouldn't bother me so bad. Oh Jess, ultimate cell phone fail. I'm notorious for accidentally calling people. I don't know how I do it, but I do.

Beka told me I looked like a ninja. Black leggings, black scarf, black top and to top it all off, a black Moby wrap. I can get behind that. Boho Ninja Mommy! HAAAAAAAH-YAAAAH! Don't mess with me! ;)

We trotted from store to store, laughing, cutting up, and just being the crazy girls we are. Beka laughed at the fact that she was carrying Káel's bottle throughout the mall at one point like it was a Starbucks... "Things have certainly changed," she laughed. Dude, they certainly have. During our wonderful outing, the little prince adventured in dreamland with dozens of people, oooing and aahhing over him. And Beks, she is amazing! We have so much fun together. She's the amazing Auntie Rivkah. ;)

HA! I had one lady give me a double look and say, and I quote: "Oh my, when I first saw you I thought you just had a REALLY big boob, but then I realized it is a baby." With that she walked on out of the shop without as much as another breath. Wow, that was random. I wondered as she left if she really meant to say that. haha! I laughed.

If you would be so kind...could you take your pretty finger and click twice for the Boho girl?
