Our favorite coffee bar is an AMAZING place called, "Not Just Coffee" and it is seriously the best coffee in Charlotte with a handcrafted espresso and pour over coffee menu! Makes me weak in my knees! haha. Today, it really was "not" just coffee for us! Samuel called me on his way to our appointment with this idea of revealing the gender at NJC, instead of finding out in the sonogram room. (They don't let you film in there and Sam really wanted to get our reaction on tape to have for our little family's life story.) I was thinking we'd just go old school and tweet it, but Sam was pretty stoked about this idea. So, I was like, "Why the heck not? I'm married to a film maker, I'm gonna embrace it." I called James, the owner of the coffee bar, and he was down for it! It was a treat and a precious memory for my heart! Ah! I can't tell you how excited we are, we got our heart's desire! I'm so in love.
My soul is soaring with happiness and bursting with smiles at the memories I'm anticipating for the future!
If you live or are visiting the Charlotte area, your life experience is not complete until you go visit Not Just Coffee! Go have one of their oh so amazing cappuccinos, teas or latte's and enjoy the flavor. They are located on east 7th street in the Uptown area. Here is their page, NJC!

DeleteLong time lurker, first time commenter!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, I have two boys and they LOVE being brothers! But you did not just do a gender reveal. You revealed your child's sex, but you will not know his gender until he's been around awhile.
"Gender" refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women.
Either way - congratulations on having a boy, and all the fun that will bring!
Really? I mean, really? I'm all for social issues, gender equality, and recognizing the different facets of "gender" but this is neither the time nor the place to make statements like that. She was simply celebrating an exciting moment in her life, no need to get caught up in technicalities and turn this lovely announcement into a political issue.
Deletethank you for sharing in our excitement! :) i appreciate your concern and interest in our family's journey! <3
DeleteI wasn't turning anything into any kind of issue, just using the proper terminology... I have always thought of Jess as a very intelligent person who might appreciate someone pointing out an error in word usage.
ReplyDeleteI apologize to Jess if I did it wrong; I truly do congratulate you on your boy and hope that you all have nothing but the best of times for the remainder of this pregnancy and beyond.
-EmmaBean
What a wonderful way to learn the news - and an even more special way to share it. I will admit that the tear that dripped off my face just landed in my nursing baby's ear. She didn't like it too much, but I told her it was well worth the discomfort! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and was thrilled to read you are a Charlotte Mommy too! I just moved here a few months ago with my 2 year old and 8 mo old. I am madly in love with the videos you create with your husband. What amazing ways to capture your family story for the kids as they grow up. I wish I had just a smidgen of your creativity to do something like this for our kids! Thanks for the tip on the coffee shop - now I"m craving a cup and will hunt this place as another must try Charlotte shop :)
ReplyDeleteyaaaay!!! you should email me and we can get together for a playdate or something! thank you! you are so sweet! YES! you must try not just coffee...my fav, amelies is pretty amazing too!
DeleteWay to make a momma (about to find out the sex of her 2nd baby next week) bawl her everlovin eyes out at work. :) Love it!
ReplyDeletei don't know how i missed this post! congrats, mama! i have two little boys myself, and there is nothing better than watching the two of them go wild like little boys do. it is absolutely magical!
ReplyDeleteAH! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! I loooooove hearing from mommas of little boys like you getting me all excited !!!! eee!!!
DeleteI thought EmmaBean might appreciate someone pointing out that Merriman Webster's current online definition agrees with Jessica's. She is having a boy. That is his sex & that is his gender.
ReplyDeletegen·der noun \ˈjen-dər\
Definition of GENDER
1
: sex 1
2
: the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex
I just love your blog and your creative videos! I found your blog through a different blog when they linked to your preggo reveal video (loovvveee) back in February. I lived in PA at the time and have since moved to Charlotte. Last night I found your blog again and this video and knew I had to try NJC immediately! My fiancé and I went this morning and it was everything you built it up to be!! We looooved it and will most definitely be back. Homemade caramel? Yes, please! So thanks for turning me on to my new obsession! :) best of luck with the remainder of your pregnancy!
