Pretty Love V.1

posted on: Thursday, February 17, 2011

My friend Carolyn is a momma to two sweet little girls and is expecting her first boy in April. I mentioned that I was throwing an amazing baby shower for one of my girl friends....well this is the gal. I got to thinking it would be fun to play dress up in vintage clothes, play with her hair, paint her lips and then take some pics for her invitations! Well, yesterday we decided to do it and we had a blast! Carolyn is SO pretty and is an amazing lady on top of being a fun mom. It was so much fun!

I hope you enjoy gazing on the prettiness of her lovely self! ;)
vintage dress: thrift store find months and months ago for like $5
Early 70's late 60's dresses that are straight lined like this are amazing for maternity dresses. Slap a belt on it and ~ tada...instant cuteness! This style is SO cute whether you have a bump or not. You can find them buried in some thrift stores and pretty cheap in certain antique mall's that feature vintage clothing.

pin: $3 antique mall (and it came with matching earrings)
When you don't want to have a whole lot going on in the jewelry department...pins are great. You can cluster them, wear them with simple earrings and gain a variety of looks with them. Boho, Vintage, Classic and Chic.

orange wrap thingy: I think I got it at Marshall's or some place like that for $10

belt: XXI $7

hair: I parted her hair to the far side then pinned them over creating a side swept bang look. I braided four locks of her hair as a crown then did the simple, yet fun and messy "pile and pin."

But this is pretty much the exact same post idea as the Mama Style on Bleubird!

  11. i love james' feature, momma style feature and look forward to every post!

it's not really the same idea, carolyn came over to my house for a vintage makeover for the shoot because that is the theme of the baby shower...and if i ever do any more in the future it won't be limited to moms and it could be me giving my friends help with a new look or featuring their own prettiness.

i'm flattered that you thought it was similar though. james is the bomb and a lady love to me. i am very sensitive to not copy people's amazing ideas in the blog world. :)

  14. I love this Jess! And to address the comment above, it's definitely NOT the same at all! We both happen to have braids, but a lot of ladies wear braids and I was not the first girl to rock them...and these photos were taken before the post even went up. Jess is one of THE most original ladies I know - a true artist - and does her own thing, always.

Jess- I know I didn't have to post this but I wanted to. You are fabulous, unique, and I adore you. Also- Carolyn is BEAUTIFUL! I love this new feature. :)

  16. I love this hairdo! I'm never totally in love with the look when I do something similar with my own hair, since it's so thick it ends up being piled up quite high. It seems like your hair is pretty thick too, any tips?

  17. I just wanted to say that Carolyn might be the cutest pregnant mama I've ever seen! Well, besides YOU obviously. :) Love this post, and I think you should do it again! Vintage clothes on sweet, beautiful ladies is a thing of beauty to behold!

  18. Jess - Let me just say that you show a lot of class and grace in your response to the "anonymous" poster who in my opinion lacks both. NOT sure why the heck they felt the need to post that anyway. Wow! As you continue to graciously share your life and joy with others, most will appreciate and enjoy you - but, I guess there will always be the "kill-joys" with whatever it is that motivates them to do so....PLEASE always carryon and be who you are and do your best to ignore the critiques...

    A HUGE FAN!
